Summer Workshop Scholarships for KCAI ceramics students
This summer Sebra Debrecht was awarded Copaken and Brooks Scholarships to travel to the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Colorado. She studied with Joseph Pintz for a two week workshop to learn his hand-building techniques for vessels.
Junior Jose Serrano also attended the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass Village, Colorado on Copaken and Brooks Scholarships. The two-week workshop, titled Inventing the Figure, was led by artist Paula Rice. It explored aspects of capturing the human figure through various hand-building techniques.
Jacob Meudt attended a week-long workshop led by Kathy King at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. This workshop focused on throwing large work in separate pieces and joining them after the firing.
Senior Shellie Kacillas received the Penland Partnership Scholarship at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina. She participated in a two week class with George Bowes which challenged each artist to clarify their conceptual intent through the use of material, process, and surface treatments.
