Sasha Alexandra receives a Windgate Fellowship Award!
Sasha Alexandra, a senior in the Kansas City Art Institute ceramics department, has received a 2013 Windgate Fellowship Award from the Center for Craft, Creativity, and Design. Her proposal for the award of $15,000 includes funds for travel to Germany, France, and England where she will examine architectural environments that integrate ceramic components as design elements. The research will inform a body of work that questions how context and display can impact the perceived value of ceramic objects. Upon her return to the United States, Alexandra will purchase equipment to set up a studio.
Alexandra’s hometown is St. Louis, Missouri. She has received a KCAI Competitive Scholarship, a 2012 Schulman Work Study Scholarship from the Penland School of Crafts in Penland, NC, and the 2013 Aardvark Clay Purchase Award for her winning entry in the NCECA National Student Juried Exhibition at the Glassell School of Art, Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Texas.
